Flexible
Dentures with DuraFlex™
Flexible dentures are a comfortable and highly natural-looking option for removeable dentures and partial dentures. Our lab primarily uses DuraFlex™ for our flexible dentures instead of nylon-based materials. DuraFlex™ is an advanced thermoplastic material for denture bases that was developed for superior flexibility, aesthetics, strength, and durability. The material is highly translucent, so it blends extremely well with soft tissue for a nearly invisible profile.

Features
Flexible dentures are an excellent option for tooth restorations, and many patients prefer them due to their superior aesthetics and comfort. Our flexible partials and dentures are fabricated from DuraFlex™, a premium thermoplastic material known for its biocompatibility, flexibility, and strength.
DuraFlex™ is more dense than conventional acrylic denture resin. This means that dentures can be designed to be thinner without compromising their strength or longevity. In materials studies, DuraFlex™ has been shown to absorb virtually no water when immersed, which makes the material highly resistant to stains and odors. Thus, with proper care and cleaning, a finished partial will maintain its color and translucency over time. Additionally, some clinicians report that the material's low water sorption makes it easier for patients to adapt to wearing a new denture and may result in fewer adjustment appointments. Best of all, our lab can easily repair, modify, and reline DuraFlex™ partials. This repairability can make them more cost effective since, with good maintenance, they can be a permanent restorative option.
Key Advantages
☑ Blends extremely well with natural gums and teeth to be virtually invisible in the mouth
☑ Highly comfortable with less irritation and fewer sore spots reported compared to hard acrylic partials
☑ Lightweight and thin, which can mean an easier transition for new denture wearers
☑ Less stress on the surrounding gums and teeth compared to traditional metal clasps
☑ Less prone to breaking or fracturing when dropped compared to acrylic partials
☑ More biocompatible compared to traditional hard acrylic denture resins
Limitations
✗ More expensive than hard acrylic partials
✗ Requires daily care and cleaning with a soft brush and mild cleanser; harsh or abrasive cleaning can discolor or damage the material
✗ Vulnerable to micro-scratches that can harbor biofilm and may require re-polishing by a lab
✗ Requires some training to adjust the material and clasps chairside
✗ Must be relined by a lab (no chairside relines)
✗ Not as durable or long-lasting as metal partials
✗ In rare circumstances, may trigger allergic reactions (typically due to residual monomer)
